Five Common Weight Loss Myths.. Busted! (part one)
This is the first part from a serie of short posts on Five Common Weight Loss Myths.
Myth #1: A high protein/low carbohydrate diet is what you need
Fact: A diet like this gets the dialy required calories from foods that have a lot of proteins such as meat, eggs and milk-based products. Additionaly a very small part of this diet is taken by foods containing a lot of carbohydrates – potatoes, fruits, pasta and bread.
The real downside of this diet is that it forbids a lot of popular foods, which can easily bore or frustrate the user. When those two enter the scene, giving up is just around the corner.
Another downside is the lack of nutrients which are usually given to you by carbohydrate foods. This allows the user to eat bacon and cheese that raise cholesterol levels.
The bottom line is that a high protein/low carbohydrate diet results in rapid weight loss for some users, but it’s not only the fat that goes away.
Some muscle mass is lost and a lot of water because the kidneys try to work harder to get rid of the body excess waste, caused by protein and fat.
This additional pressure to your kidneys is a bad thing. In the long run will lead to dehydration, feelings of nausea, dizziness and headaches.
Before a long-term diet it would be wise to consult your physician. And if you are sharp on dieting, do a balanced diet first, because it will reduce your weight without hurting your system in any way.
