Why do we gain weight while eating low fat foods?

Most people who try diets believe that fat is the main enemy and should be totally removed from their daily menu. However, the entire removal of fat is not a good idea. Meanwhile, products labeled “light” are not always suitable for removal of excess weight.

Elimination of fat

Fat is essential for the processes of absorption of some vitamins like A, E, K. Without fat, the skin becomes dry and the hair looks exhausted. Moreover – fat is important for the nervous system, for production of many hormones and protection of body from hypothermia. If you make a diet of 2,000 calories per day your body needs 70g fat daily. 1/5 of this amount must come from saturated fats (like butter, pork, fatty meats) and the rest must be from unsaturated (vegetable oils and fish).

Can “Light” foods really help weight loss?

If you follow a healthy diet, excess weight and health problems do not apply to you. Yet, not anyone eats healthy that’s why they often eat the so-called “Light” products. Here, people fall into a trap. Calorie content of these foods is usually about 11% less than the others. However, fat makes us feel satiated faster; and as soon as we eat skim milk, we feel the need for more food.

Ultimately, it may occur that we consume more calories than if we eat normal milk. And let’s not forget that sometimes in an effort to reduce the fat content manufacturers enrich the “Light” versions of foods with non-dietary ingredients.

Dangerous Diets
Before you start eating diet foods read their calorie content and ingredients.

DietingSkim milk

Manufacturers add starch to it to improve its taste qualities. And since in this case milk is richer in carbohydrates than normal milk, it appears that it is not particularly diet. That’s why you should read food labels, because 0% fat usually do not mean 0% calories.

“Fitness” cereals

Such cereals usually contain 350-400 calories per 100g. For comparison – two eggs are only 200 calories of your daily calorie intake. Therefore, these grains are unlikely to help you in the attempts to lose weight.
Dietetic bread

Unlike normal bread, this bread can hardly satiate you and every time you reach for it you prefer putting marmalade on it.

Diet drinks

They replace the ordinary drinks, but instead of sugar they contain artificial sweeteners. They are sweeter than sugar but contain no calories. It may seem cool at first glance. And yet sweet flavor increases the production of insulin. As a result, the body does not accepts calories which to start degrading but wants energy in double doses. Therefore you should not be wondering why you want to eat the refrigerator after a cup of diet Coke for example.
